• RBI slaps penalties on Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.05 crore and Rs 1 crore on Kotak Mahindra Bank and IndusInd Bank, respectively, for deficiencies in regulatory compliance.

• RBI's deposit insurance arm to pay depositors of two co-operative banks in August
  • The Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) will pay the eligible depositors of Shankarrao Pujari Nutan Sahakari Bank, Ichalkaranji, and Harihareshwar Sahakari Bank, Wai in August.

• Tata Steel completes acquisition of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL)
  • Tata Steel has completed the acquisition of 93.71 per cent in Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) through its listed step-down subsidiary, Tata Steel Long Products (TSLP).

  • As several senior Ambassadors have retired,Indian diplomacy is preparing for new faces in key countries this month.
  • India’s Ambassador to Bhutan Ruchira Khamboj is taking over as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami is likely to be the next High Commissioner to the U.K.

• 125th birth anniversary celebration of legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju
  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launched the year-long 125th birth anniversary celebration of legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The 125th birth anniversary of Alluri Sitarama Raju Garu and the 100th anniversary of Rampa Kranti will be celebrated throughout the year.

• States’ Start-Up Ranking 2021
  • The results of the third edition of Ranking of States on Support to Startup Ecosystems were released by Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles.
  • Best Performers: Gujarat and Karnataka emerged as the Best Performers in a category of States. Meghalaya won the top honour among UTs and North-eastern (NE) States.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

• TiHAN Testbed for Autonomous Navigation at IIT Hyderabad
  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art “Autonomous Navigation” facility to develop unmanned ground and aerial vehicles in the IIT Hyderabad campus.

DEFENCE

• ALH Squadron INAS 324 Commissioned at Visakhapatnam
  • Indian Naval Air Squadron 324 was commissioned into the Indian Navy at an impressive Commissioning Ceremony held at INS Dega, Visakhapatnam on 04 Jul 22.
  • The unit is the first Naval Squadron on the Eastern Seaboard operating the indigenously designed and built Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) MK III (MR) helicopters.
