RBI Assistant 2022: Normalisation of Scores

Generally, candidates have some confusion regarding what the ‘Normalisation process’ is and how it is done. So, we will discuss what ‘Normalisation’ is, in brief.

In India, many government/banking exams are conducted in various shifts due to the sheer volume of the candidates appearing for such exams. Therefore, the difficulty level also differs across various shifts. Hence, the Normalisation process is adopted by various recruiting bodies which organise competitive exams in multiple shifts. This is done to ensure that the performance of the candidates appearing in the competitive/banking exams is judged in an impartial manner. This process is mostly followed in the Prelims stage as the number of candidates appearing in this phase are higher in number.

How is Normalisation Done?

Normalisation is done through Equi-Percentile Method. Firstly, the percentile rank of the candidates is calculated for each shift of the exam. The formula is as follows-

Percentile Rank of the Candidate =  (Total Students in a shift – Rank of the candidate in that shift) / ( Total Students in a shift – 1 ) * 100

After the calculation of the percentile, a cut-off percentile is fixed based on the number of vacancies available. Based on this cut-off score, the candidates are finally shortlisted for the next phase.

To learn more about the Normalisation process, you can refer to the video below-

We hope this information helps you.

  • Give all subjects their due importance.
  • According to the recent trends, you must give an upper hand to General Awareness and Numerical Ability in the exam. These sections are very scoring and in case you are faced with more difficult questions, you should be able to navigate them and score well.
  • You have already taken the Reasoning, English and Numerical Ability tests in your Prelims exam. So now, your focus must be mainly on revising these subjects thoroughly.
  • In essence, you must divide your study time into 2 parts. Half your time should be spent on revising the aforementioned subjects and the other half should be spent on preparing GA and Computer Knowledge.
  • You cannot simply mug up GA/current affairs facts. The best way to prepare is to take GA quizzes so that you can learn and assess yourself as you go along.
  • So, take a free daily GA quiz to supplement your preparation.
  • Also, focus on the recent events of 2022, between January and April for current affairs preparation.
  • Go through the previous year’s papers of other bank exams, such as SBI Clerk Mains Previous Year Papers to also assess the kind of questions asked. This will give you a better idea of how you need to prepare.
  • Take at least 10 RBI Assistant Mains mock tests until your exam. In fact, you can take many more than 10 practice tests. The more you practice, the better you will perform in your exam. Remember, practice makes perfect.
