S.NoTestQuestionsMarksDuration

2.Quantitative Aptitude5050
3.English Language5025
 Total1501252 hours

The IBPS AFO Mains Exam 2024 will consist of one test of Professional Knowledge of 60 marks having 60 questions with a time duration of 45 minutes.

Reasoning is one of the most important sections in the IBPS AFO Exam which tests the reasoning skills of the candidates, through various kinds of topics that will be specified in the official notification of IBPS AFO Exam 2024. Candidates face many hurdles while attempting the Reasoning section of IBPS AFO. Though, it is all in the mind!! As far as Reasoning section is concerned it is actually in the mind! This section tests your analytical and reasoning skills. Before discussing about IBPS AFO Reasoning in detail, it is advised to get a hold on IBPS AFO reasoning syllabus :

IBPS AFO Reasoning

IBPS AFO: ReasoningSection- Short Preparation Tips
IBPS AFO: Reasoning Preparation Tips

Reasoning majorly is a combination of LOGIC and APTITUDE.

Logic is a particular way of thinking, based on reasoning and good judgement and understanding. It may have its own varied levels and tendencies, depending on each individual, but it does exist in everyone. We just need to sharpen our ability of judgement, through practice.

APTITUDE on the other hand is more of a natural tendency that is there in an individual and this is what the section examines.

Therefore, you need to sharpen your logic taking help of your natural ability or quality. So, it seems an easy goal to achieve. To start- we need to know the syllabus, so that we should know on what parameters we need to work and enhance our abilities.

  1. SYLLOGISM – It is a kind of logical argument that involves analysing the statements and picking the correct conclusion/s that follow/s, assuming all the propositions to be true. It involves the art of figuring out the most possibilities according to the statements given and eliminating the ones which do not concur with the facts as presented in the questions.
  2. CODED INEQUALITIES – This is another most common type asked in almost all of the banking exams, which again tests your analysing skills and speed. It all depends on your observations skills and how fast can you read, analyse and retain in your mind and act as swiftly as you can.

You need to read the codes and retain them, and analyse which of the conclusions follows accordingly.

  1. PUZZLE – This is the most feared and ‘puzzling’ of them all, but if practiced with interest, it might turn out to be one of the easiest and interesting nut to crack!
IBPS AFO Reasoning
IBPS AFO: Reasoning: Puzzles

–  SEATING ARRANGEMENT: The trick here is, to know how to solve a puzzle in as less time as possible, without making things too complicated. The moment you learn to utilize the least space and still solve a puzzle, in less time, without making a confused picture, is when you will be successful in making the most out of your time.

– CIRCULAR ARRANGEMENTS, LINEAR ARRANGEMENTS, SQUARE ARRANGEMENTS, FLOOR ARRANGEMENTS, BOX PUZZLES, DIRECTION-BASED PUZZLES are some common types asked these days.

  1. INPUT – OUTPUT – This is another type that tests your analysing skills moving a step ahead. You need to recognise the pattern and likewise solve the arrangement given in the question. SO, in a way, it takes more time comparatively, as you first need to solve the pattern given and then solve the one given in the question accordingly.
  2. BLOOD RELATION – As the name suggests, these type of questions expect you to find out the relation between the persons given in the respective questions. This type tests your cognitive ability.

It checks your analysing speed and clarity. You are expected to deduce the relation between any two people in the least time possible in the exam scenario, which means, irrespective of the simplicity of the kind of questions, the way of asking them combined with the exam pressure makes them complex. They can be asked in many ways, e.g. mixed relations, coded relations, puzzle form etc.

  1. DATA SUFFICIENCY – Based on a particular detail, these questions also require you to be more swift and quick in answering as you need to be able to come to a decision as soon as possible, looking at the question at once, at best. You are required to decide if the data provided in the question is sufficient to answer the question and choose the answer options accordingly.

The thing that will make you stand out among the rest will be your ability to answer the questions in shortest time possible, without even solving the question, and that will come through thorough practice.

  1. ORDER AND RANKING – This is one simple type, where you can score full marks if you practice a little, so that you come to know ‘how to’ go about the question in the first place and do not waste your precious time. This is a simpler one, as it doesn’t have a lot of information to puzzle you with.
  2. ALPHA NUMERIC NUMBER SERIES – Here, you will be given a mixed series of numbers, symbols and alphabets, based on a particular pattern and you will be asked various questions on the given series. It proves to be a scoring type where you do not have to waste any time in solving or coming to a conclusion. You just need to rearrange the series accordingly and answer the questions that follow.
  3. LOGICAL REASONING – As you can make out from the title, such type of questions test your instant reasoning skills, testing your ability to apply a logic. These can be asked in different ways, e.g.-
  4. STATEMENT AND ASSUMPTIONS – You will be given statements and you will have to decide which of the assumptions follow, according to the information given.
  5. CAUSE AND EFFECT – You are given a particular information, where accordingly you need to choose the answer options, that which of the given statements is/ are a cause / effect of the other statement given.
  6. COURSE OF ACTION – You need to decide which of the given course of action is suitable according to the problem in question.
  7. STRONG / WEAK ARGUMENTS – You need to infer which of the given arguments either strengthens / weakens the given statement.
  8. CODING – DECODING – Here, you are provided with a pattern of codes with different English words arranged in random order. You need to break the coding pattern and find out the codes according to the questions.

REASONING is a subject where you can improve with practice and score better. For IBPS AFO reasoning questions, practice free mock tests for IBPS AFO

ALL THAT IS NEEDED IS YOUR ANALYSIS, SPEED AND OBSERVATION AND THE SKILL OF ELIMINATING THE WRONG CHOICES AND RECOGNISING THE TYPES YOU ARE MOST COMFORTABLE WITH.

The IBPS AFO Exam Notification for 2023 was released on August 1st, and though the notification for the current year is not yet out, it’s better to begin your preparation. It is important to commence self-assessment and start the extent of your progress, including the completion of resources and your current standing. In today’s blog, we will discuss how you can initiate your preparation by setting three specific targets to excel in the IBPS AFO Exam within a three-month timeframe.

Top Mantras to Follow for IBPS AFO Exam Preparation

If you are looking to enhance your IBPS AFO Exam Preparation, you need to know these mantras that will help you clear the exam with flying colors.

  1. Work on Concepts: Understanding the basic concepts of agriculture and related subjects is essential for cracking the IBPS AFO exam. This means going beyond memorizing facts and formulas and actually grasping the underlying principles. For example, instead of simply memorizing the steps of soil testing, understand why each step is important and how it contributes to assessing soil fertility. This deep understanding will help you tackle complex questions and solve problems effectively during the exam.
  1. No Shortcut, Maximum Study: The IBPS AFO exam requires dedication and hard work, and there are no shortcuts to success. It is important to make a study schedule and allocate maximum hours to study. Consistency is key, as daily practice and regular study sessions will ensure steady progress. For instance, if you aim to learn about different types of irrigation methods, allocate specific time slots every day to study and revise this topic thoroughly.
  1. Make Your Own Notes: Creating your own notes while studying is a powerful technique for effective learning and revision. When you summarize important concepts, formulas, and facts in your own words, it helps consolidate your understanding and improves retention. For example, while studying about different types of crops, create a concise summary of their characteristics, cultivation requirements, and economic importance. These notes will serve as a quick reference during the last days before the exam, helping you revise effectively.
  1. Revise, Practice & Mock Tests: Regular revision is crucial to retaining what you have studied. Set aside dedicated time for it in your study schedule. Additionally, practicing questions on a daily basis will not only improve your speed but also enhance your accuracy. Taking IBPS AFO Previous Year Papers and Mock Tests regularly is essential to assess your preparation and identify areas of improvement.

Analyze the mock test results to understand your strengths and weaknesses, and focus on improving weak areas through targeted study and practice. For example, after taking a mock test, if you find that you are weak in logical reasoning, allocate more time to practice logical reasoning questions and understand the strategies involved.

Self-Analysis for IBPS AFO Exam: Where Do You Stand?

Analyzing your current preparation level for the IBPS AFO exam is crucial for effective planning and maximizing your chances of success. By evaluating the completion of the exam syllabus from the IBPS AFO Notification and the number of mock tests attempted, you can identify your strengths and weaknesses. Tips for analyzing your preparation level include:

  1. Assess Syllabus Completion: Review the topics covered in the IBPS AFO exam syllabus and determine how much of it you have studied. This will give you a clear picture of the areas you need to focus on and allocate appropriate study time.
  1. Evaluate Mock Test Performance: Check the number of mock tests you have attempted and evaluate your performance in each test. Analyze the areas where you struggled or made mistakes, as these indicate your weak points. Focus on improving these areas through targeted study and practice.
  1. Identify Strong and Weak Topics: Based on your performance in mock tests and the topics you have covered, identify the subjects or topics in which you excel and the ones that require more attention. Devote more time to strengthening weak areas while also revising and practicing strong topics to maintain proficiency.
  1. Create a Study Schedule: Use the insights gained from your analysis to create a study schedule that addresses your weaknesses and includes regular revision and practice of strong topics. Adjust your schedule as needed to maintain a balanced and effective study routine.

Top 3 Targets for IBPS AFO Exam

  1. Complete QRE (Quantitative, Reasoning, and English) by October-end:
    • The QRE (Quantitative, Reasoning, and English) section is a crucial part of the IBPS AFO exam. Allocating the first month of your preparation to these subjects will allow you to build a strong foundation in these fundamental topics.
    • It is important to understand concepts thoroughly instead of relying on shortcuts. This will help you tackle complex problems during the exam. Practice solving a wide range of questions to improve your speed and accuracy.
  1. Cover Agriculture by November:
    • Agriculture is the core subject for the IBPS AFO exam. Allocate the second month of your preparation to thoroughly studying agricultural concepts and topics.
    • While studying agriculture, it is recommended to create your own comprehensive notes. This will not only help you understand and retain the information better, but it will also serve as a quick revision tool in the final days before the exam.
  1. Complete 10 Mock Tests in a Month (5 Prelims & 5 Mains):
    • Practice is essential for success in the IBPS AFO exam. Dedicate the final month of your preparation to rigorous practice, including attempting mock tests.
    • Aim to complete a minimum of 10 mock tests every month, including a balanced mix of preliminary and mains examinations. IBPS AFO prelims Mock tests simulate the actual exam environment, familiarize you with the exam pattern, and help you improve your time management skills.

How to prepare efficiently for IBPS AFO changing exam pattern in this competitive era

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts the Agriculture Field Officer (AFO) examination to recruit eligible candidates for agricultural banking roles. The IBPS announced a change in the exam pattern for the AFO examination, which necessitates a revamped preparation strategy. This is important for aspiring candidates go through the changes in the exam pattern and provide an effective preparation strategy to succeed in the IBPS AFO examination.

Lets take a little recap: From 2015 to 2020, IBPS AFO has evolved its syllabus or exam pattern faster than any exam, especially for mains or agriculture part. From 2015-2017 when there was only one exam, the agriculture part was a more conceptual type. In 2017 the paper was a little bit tough compared to earlier years as it consisted of questions from various allied sciences viz. animal husbandry, food science, farm power and machinery and few questions from current agriculture but there was a very great change from 2018 onwards.

Firstly, the exam was divided into Prelims and Mains, secondly, Mains (agriculture) questions were very different from the previous year as maximum questions from NABARD, schemes, subsidy, ICAR, Agriculture allied parts were asked instead of  conceptual agriculture which puzzled students who prepared by going through previous year pattern. Current Agriculture news and questions from NABARD, Subsidy and schemes are becoming a major focus in IBPS SO AFO exam. So, it becomes a very big challenge to cover this IBPS SO AFO exam pattern and syllabus and look for the “source” from where to get quality material.

Major areas of concern for AFO aspirants

  1. Syllabus
  2. Source to cover the syllabus
  3. Paper is now similar to NABARD ARD section
  4. Preparation strategy for this comprehensive syllabus
  5. How to get the facts and what to read in lengthy reports of various departments?
  6. What is the limit of current agriculture?
  7. How to get schemes, subsidy type questions and how to retain the data
  8. How to study conceptual agriculture part
  9. How to cover syllabus to ensure the selection
  10. Interview question related to agriculture

How to Approach the mentioned concerns

Given below is the detailed approach for every point mentioned above-

  • Syllabus- Here we will discuss the IBPS SO AFO Mains exam pattern. As per the last two-year paper trend, it is seen that about forty percent paper consists of agriculture conceptual along with allied subjects and current agriculture.
  • Conceptual agriculture -questions from agronomy, soil science, horticulture, agriculture extension and economics
  • Allied agriculture – questions from animal husbandry, poultry science, fisheries, farm power and machinery, agro forestry, food science etc.
  • Current agriculture – it consists of very comprehensive part
  • Latest and important Agriculture schemes
  • NABARD finance schemes and subsidies
  • Bankable Agriculture projects
  • ICAR recent developments and news
  • Production data
  • Source to cover IBPS SO AFO syllabus- Till now in the market, there is no specific book which covers all the above-mentioned topics or syllabus. One needs to study these topics from various sources which must be authentic and latest, so  we will discuss source for each topic below: –
  • For conceptual agriculture:–
  • fundamentals of agriculture by Arun Katyayan part 1 & 2
  • General agriculture by Nem Raj Sunda
  • Objective book by Muniraj Singh Rathore
  • For allied agriculture: –
  • Agriculture at a glance by R K Sharma
  • TNAU notes
  • Current agriculture for above mentioned syllabus
  • Annual budget of Union Government 2020-21
  • NABARD annual report and updates of NABARD from its site
  • From Nabard or the notes
  • Icar.org and its latest updates
  • For recent data reliable source is PIB

So it is the source to cover all the topics, besides this, there are many other sites and reports which are important

  • Now the query of many of the students who also aspire for higher and prestigious exam like NABARD- the ARD section is similar, so how to complete syllabus so that preparation for both the exam can be done simultaneously is a big concern, and as per last three year exam pattern, NABARD Prelims ARD section and AFO agriculture part is quite similar as both the paper consist of current agriculture, current production data and allied part. So if you cover the above mentioned syllabus with above sources you almost have maximum coverage but not 100% as you cannot cover the whole agriculture graduation syllabus from these 2-3 books and also these books are for the preparation of JRF exams not designed for banking.  As there is no special book so you can refer to them for concept and for special notes of conceptual which form an important part of the IBPS AFO exam, you can go for ixamBee high quality material.
  • Now if we talk about the preparation strategy for the IBPS SO AFO exam, you need to cover your conceptual agriculture first and then current agriculture. Many times it is seen that many good students remain busy with covering agriculture conceptual part ignoring the current agriculture which cost their selection, so a balance must be there in both parts. As far as good strategy is concerned, first focus on Agriculture conceptual part ( no deep knowledge is required) and secondly, two months are sufficient to cover current agriculture part, however, regress study on current agriculture must be started prior to one month of exam. If you analyse the recent Preliminary exam of NABARD, questions on current agriculture were 15 to 20 days prior to the exam. So one-month current affairs regarding agriculture, ICAR, NABARD is very important.
  • RBI Grade B exam is really a very good exam for a very formidable post, so it requires knowledge of RBI reports, IMF reports etc. but as IBPS AFO is concern there is no such requirement of these report even if you skip the NABARD annual report it won’t give much impact on your marks.  You should be well focused on the relative updates and PIB updates.
  • Limit of agriculture concepts is similar to calculating the limit of SKY.  As you all have studied various courses in agriculture during your graduation programme and even students from allied sciences or from AGRI B Tech have the idea about the course of agriculture so believe with little focussed approach you will nail it. You are not going to do research in the bank, IBPS just seeks the basic Agriculture knowledge from you viz. cropping pattern, crop growth conditions, varieties of important crop, soil types, nutrient management & deficiencies etc. So if you adhere yourself up to the quality notes of ixamBee courses, you will not skip a single question in the exam. If you undermine the exam pattern which nowadays consists of more current agriculture than conceptual you will definitely lose marks. So before the Preliminary exam you should study conceptual agriculture as much as you can but after Prelims, you should focus on notes and current agriculture.
  • How to get scheme, subsidy, production data and how to remember it-  The Best source is NABARD site or ixamBee pdf  because many schemes are launched by various ministries and directly given to the banks so preparing yourself the subsidy schemes is really very daunting task, so here at ixambee,  our content creator will be doing this work. As far as production data is concern you must have knowledge of last year production estimates and recent estimate launched by the Government for the current year, both are equally important for all viz food grain production, horticulture production, fisheries, dairy production etc. and you must revise again and again and discuss them in your friend circle so that you do not forget the digit during the IBPS SO AFO or any Agriculture exam.
  • For covering conceptual agriculture, ixamBee has designed very crisp, to the point and exam related concepts which are very easy to remember. We have already discussed the limitations of conceptual agriculture in earlier paragraphs. Even the books suggested above are designed to cover the syllabus for jrf/srf exams and may not be much useful for banking so there is no use of such vast conceptual knowledge. One more way is to give more and more mock tests to analyse yourself. Here you can go for ixamBee IBPS SO mock tests that are absolutely free and designed keeping the latest exam pattern in mind.
  • To ensure your selection, prior to IBPS SO AFO Preliminary exam along with Quants, Reasoning and English you must study conceptual Agriculture part as much as you can or you can simply read books or literature if you have time but after IBPS SO AFO Prelims, you must focus on current agriculture and give maximum mock test. At Least one mock test daily for IBPS SO AFO Mains exams, this will definitely ensure your selection
  • Interview- Interview has a huge impact on the choice of the bank because the marks of the interview can change all over marks with huge differences, so it has very high importance. Basically, we all have given interviews at various levels after leaving school so you have little knowledge and exposure about your interview skills on the basis of which you can analyse your weakness, skills, strengths etc. Generally, an interviewer seeks and rates your performance via, body posture, gesture, answering ability, way of response, how you start, how you end etc. so just make a list and work accordingly. You can also give mock interviews to get a real exam-like feeling. It will help you in analyzing yourself for all these aspects.

You can also go for ixamBee online course for IBPS AFO which is designed keeping the latest questions trend in mind.

Preparations Strategies to Take you Through the IBPS AFO Exam 2023

Now that you’ve gained a comprehensive understanding of the IBPS AFO exam, it’s time to kickstart your preparation. To maximize your available time and aim for a successful first attempt at the IBPS AFO Exam, consider these effective strategies:

  • Utilize Effective Time Management: Managing your time wisely is essential during your IBPS AFO 2023 exam preparation. Create a daily and weekly schedule to allocate specific time slots for each subject and topic. This structured approach will help you set achievable goals and maintain a consistent study routine. Ensure that you balance revising what you’ve learned and tackling new material to reinforce your understanding.
  • Practice with Mock Tests: Mock tests are valuable tools to gauge your progress and get accustomed to the exam format. Set aside regular periods for taking full-length practice exams and section-wise quizzes through the IBPS AFP mock tests. Analyze your performance, identify weak areas, and work on improving them. This practice not only enhances your time management skills but also familiarizes you with the actual exam conditions.
  • Seek Peer Support and Discussion: Engage with fellow aspirants or join study groups to discuss and exchange ideas on exam-related topics. Collaborative learning can offer fresh perspectives and insights. Moreover, explaining concepts to others can reinforce your understanding. ixambee’s Online Course and other social media groups and forums related to IBPS AFO  can also be useful for sharing experiences and gaining insights from a wider community of candidates.
  • Stay Updated and Adapt: The IBPS AFO exam pattern and syllabus may change yearly. Stay updated with the latest exam notifications, pattern revisions, and any modifications in the syllabus. Be ready to adapt your study plan accordingly. Regularly check the official IBPS website and other reliable sources for updates, and ensure your preparation aligns with the most current requirements.
  • Embrace Self-Education: There’s no need to rely solely on formal coaching for the moderately challenging IBPS SO Exam. Self-study offers the advantage of approaching the material and the final exam with a fresh, individual perspective. It allows you to avoid conforming to preconceived notions from coaching centers and can be a highly effective preparation method.
  • Craft a Study Schedule: When preparing independently, a well-structured study plan becomes even more crucial. Create a detailed schedule where you allocate specific time slots to cover various topics each day. This will help you set and achieve realistic goals, minimize confusion, and maintain a logical flow while studying for the preliminary and main examinations.
  • Consult Reliable Study Materials: Countless books claim to aid in competitive exam preparation like the IBPS SO. However, be cautious of books by lesser-known authors and publishers, which may contain inaccurate information. Always opt for authorized exam preparation books from reputable sources to ensure the quality and accuracy of the content.
  • Explore Online Tutorials: Even while preparing independently, you may encounter doubts or problems that require expert assistance. Online tutorials from ixambee are rather invaluable at such times. Choose a tutorial carefully, preferably based on recommendations from others who have successfully used them, and stick to one. Consistency in your approach is key, as every teacher has a distinct problem-solving method.
  • Reverse the Exam Strategy: Reversing your approach to the exam can yield significant benefits. Begin by tackling the questions towards the end of a section. These questions are often simpler, and you’re more likely to answer them correctly with a fresh mind. Success in these initial questions will boost your confidence for the more challenging ones later on. For instance, if a section has 50 questions, start from question 30 and work your way backward to 1.
  • Skip Unfamiliar Questions: During the exam, if you encounter questions that seem unclear or challenging, don’t dwell on them for too long. It’s advisable to skip such questions and return to them later if time allows. Focusing on the questions you understand well first can help you accumulate more points and manage your time effectively.
