Are you preparing for the RBI Grade B Interview? Are you worried about making a good impression on the interview panel? Do you become nervous at job interviews?  If so then you have come to the right place.

In this series of blogs, I will be revealing some very interesting aspects related to interview preparation in a simple and candid style. I have been mentoring aspirants for interviews for several years now and will share with you my insights from years of experience on how you can successfully clear the interview round as well.

This year in 2024, RBI announced 94 vacancies for the Grade B- General officer post. This is a considerably low number of vacancies for this post that has been announced by the RBI in many years. The response, however, has not been less either; lakhs of candidates have applied for the coveted job this year. Candidates have finally made it from the RBI Grade B Prelims conducted in September this year to the RBI Grade B Mains result.

Two daunting months and two phases (of written examination) later, 198 candidates have made it to the final phase of the selection process for RBI Grade B vacancies – the RBI Grade B 2024 Interview.

First of all, many congratulations, if you have made it to the Interview stage. You should be proud of yourself and give yourself a pat on your back for making it this far. However, keep moving towards the finish line; 198 Interview candidates for 94 vacancies effectively means that 1 out of every 2 candidates is finally going to make it all the way. So how to make sure that YOU are the ONE candidate selected out of the 2 candidates for the RBI Grade B 2024 Interview?

In a series of blogs, I will discuss your RBI Grade B Interview preparation strategy and the mistakes to avoid. So let’s get started without further ado with our first topic of discussion. In this blog, I will elaborate on the meaning of an Interview. It is important to know the meaning and purpose of an Interview to prepare for it well.

What is an Interview?

A simple dictionary meaning will tell you that an Interview is a meeting at which somebody is asked questions to find out if he/she is suitable for a job. The keywords here, to focus on, are “questions” and “suitable”. I have been taking Interviews for almost 6-7 years now and have been mentoring for Interview preparation for the last 3 years. Over the years I have noticed that the understanding about an Interview, amongst the prospective candidates, has remained narrow and information-focused. For the majority, Questions = job-related technical information. This is a very narrow understanding and has been the major reason why so many candidates fail at Interviews, despite being very bright academically.

So what is the broader or correct understanding of “questions”? Here comes in the second word I asked you to focus on in the definition of an Interview – “suitable”. The questions not only revolve around the information related to the job profile but also help to understand if the candidate is suitable for the organization. You might have heard about the recruitment concept of “right person for the right job”. Recruitment is a very tedious and costly (and not just in terms of money but also the number of human hours invested) process for any organization; and therefore, it is imperative for the organization to find the right person for the job, who is not just likely to excel in the work/task assigned but is also a right fit with the core values and vision of the organization and would be instrumental in achieving the goals of the organization. The questions asked in the Interview also try to understand the personality of the candidate. So when you prepare for the interview, keep in mind, not just the answer but also how you answer the question.

Do you structure your answer well? Do you try to bluff your way out of an answer you are not sure of? Do you lose focus and confidence if you are unable to answer one question? are you easily confused? Do you tend to give a book definition of a question or are you able to give your own understanding of it? Do you fumble for words while answering?  Do you have a negative tone while answering or an apologetic one or a confident one?

So as a first step, when you prepare for the Interview, also prepare for your delivery of the answer and not just the content of the answer.

In my next blog, I will discuss the areas of questions for the RBI Grade B 2024 Interview you should prepare for. For complete guidance and preparation, you may join our RBI Grade B Interview Course which includes 4 classes on general guidance on Interview preparation, 1 formal mock Interview by our expert panel which is followed by personalized feedback, and a 1-o-1 session with Mr.Susheel Ragade.

SEBI Grade A IT Interview Questions

Do’s for SEBI Grade A IT Interview

  • Mock Interviews: Mock interviews are a fantastic method for preparation of the actual SEBI Grade A IT Interview. The mock interview sessions can make you familiarize with the seriousness and pressure of a real SEBI interview. Mock interviews can also mirror the actual experience of the SEBI interview and even provide you with constructive feedback from your interviewers. This is very valuable feedback for you, and you can use it in order to sharpen your answers, body language, and the overall SEBI interview technique. Pre-exposure to similar SEBI interview questions will provide you with precious insights in terms of performance while pointing out areas that would need improvement so that your confidence is high for the actual exam day.
  • Keep Yourself Updated on the Domain and Current Affairs: Simply stated, the SEBI Grade A IT interview is not an assessment of your technical expertise alone. It tests personality as well as awareness about broader topics. Hence, not only master knowledge in the IT stream but also showcase a rounded knowledge of recent developments and current affairs. Interviewers will be testing your flexibility, so do learn about recent news, especially in the realm of finance, technology, and any other regulatory changes. Displaying a wide, updated knowledge base will allow you to position yourself as a strong, knowledgeable, and well-prepared candidate. You can refer to Beepedia for daily, weekly, and monthly updates on General Awareness and Current Affairs.
  • Master Your IT Domain Knowledge: Any SEBI Grade A interview, especially of the IT stream, requires one to be technically fit. Familiarity with key SEBI IT coding questions and assurance that you are comfortable discussing specific projects, skills, and concepts around your domain. You should be able to talk with confidence regarding your technical experiences such as previous work, internships, research projects, and relevant achievements. Being able to recall these experiences in detail will demonstrate to the interviewers your expertise and readiness for the SEBI Grade A IT Officer role. Mastering these SEBI Grade A IT Officer coding questions and having practical examples ready can help you make a strong impression.
  • Body Language and Facial Expressions: Your non-verbal communication makes all the difference in creating a positive impression during the interview with SEBI Grade A. The best SEBI interview technique involves avoiding any negative body language. Avoid being nervous. Keep a calm and confident posture while maintaining eye contact to engage each of your interviewers. Train yourself so that you don’t give any sort of nervous gestures while maintaining your relaxed yet attentive posture. Controlled facial expressions, coupled with subtle yet confident gestures, can greatly enhance your communication and project confidence. Good body language truly reflects your professionalism, self-assurance, and readiness to take up the responsibilities of a SEBI IT Officer.

Don’ts for the SEBI Grade A IT Interview

  • Make the Most of the Opportunity to Ask Questions: It’s bad to miss the chance to talk to the interviewer when they ask if you have any questions. Many candidates carry the fear of appearing uncertain or drawing negative attention by asking questions; this is a misconception. A well-thought-out, relevant question can show your interest and excitement in the work. You can even ask about the expectations that exist around the role, the structure of the team, or the technologies you will be working on as a SEBI Grade A IT Officer. Curiosity and conversation indicate a true engagement in joining SEBI. Use the time during the SEBI Grade A IT Interview to pose meaningful questions that reflect your awareness of the dynamics of the interview process at SEBI.
  • Never Provide False Information: Some candidates give wrong information to make a good impression. What you must ensure is that you do not provide false information during your SEBI Grade A interview. The panel consists of experienced experts who can easily identify inconsistencies and inaccuracies during your SEBI interview. Instead of taking that risk, only present your actual achievements, qualifications, and strengths. Authenticity of responses during the SEBI interview builds trust and it says a lot about your character. Honesty is often one of the most desirable traits when you go through any SEBI interview experience. Remember, sharing genuine insights—whether about your technical knowledge or relevant SEBI IT coding questions—is far more impressive than giving information you cannot confidently support.
  • Avoid Extreme Answers and End on a Positive Note: Be truthful but avoid being too blunt or absolutely critical, especially regarding past assignments or experiences. Balance your SEBI interview answers so they are constructive. For example, if you talk about a situation that was particularly challenging, describe what you learned from the experience or how you adapted to overcoming the problem. What the interview panel at SEBI would appreciate is a reflection-an answer that portrays a problem-solving attitude and shows resilience in communication. The good ending reflects professionalism and maturity and leads to the most desirable qualities that SEBI expects from a Grade A IT Officer.
  • Dress Professionally for a Lasting First Impression: Your attire will speak volumes about your readiness for a professional role. Remember, the SEBI Grade A IT Interview is a formal occasion, and the way you appear before the interviewers is a preview of your conduct within the organization. A well-groomed, formal appearance signals that you’re serious about the position and understand workplace decorum. Never go for casual attire, instead, wear professional clothes showing that you actually aspire to join SEBI as a dedicated IT Officer. After all, first impressions count, and, for the most part, a polished and professional appearance is the very epitome of showing respect for an opportunity like the SEBI Interview.

Technical expertise is a must for an interview at SEBI, and SEBI IT coding questions must be known almost by heart to have a good impact on the interview panel.
  • Demonstrating a Problem-Solving Attitude: Questions in the SEBI interview tend to evaluate a candidate’s problem-solving abilities as well. The candidates are likely to be presented with situational questions or may be asked behavioral questions to check whether the candidate under stress can think critically and creatively. For instance, they could ask about a time you encountered an enormous problem and how you managed to come out of it, or they might ask about a situation wherein you had to come up with innovative solutions to meet pressing needs. Such a question does not just test your technical skills but also the technique you will display during the SEBI interview. This is where you have outperformed expectations and showed initiative, flexibility, and a bottom-line approach.

Draw examples from your previous experience about how you have demonstrated leadership or supported a team’s efforts toward success. These examples show how well you fit into SEBI’s organizational culture as both an individual contributor and a teammate.
  • Keeping Your Resume Current and Relevant: Of course, the resume is a central part of a SEBI Grade A interview. This updated and detailed resume will be a map for the interviewers to prepare questions about your professional experiences and achievements. Prepare to talk about each of your positions, your specific job responsibilities, and any notable achievements. If currently employed, you can be asked about the job you are holding presently. This is not merely a repetition of your qualifications, but it also indicates professionalism and a sense of thoroughness, which SEBI puts a high premium on.
  • Knowledge of SEBI’s Organizational Structure and Current Developments: Understanding the present role of SEBI in India’s financial scenario is important. Update this role with the fact that the interviewers may be asking about recent changes, updated regulations, and the greater impacts of SEBI’s work on the country’s economic stability. This ability to keep up to date on recent initiatives and regulatory updates from SEBI will help you to provide ideas rather than just sound bites which would therefore demonstrate an interest in the organization. The SEBI Interview is the last and the most important step in the SEBI Grade A Examination process. This half an hour exercise has the power to change your life and help you achieve your goal of becoming a SEBI Grade A Officer.

“How to prepare for SEBI Interview” and “What is generally asked in SEBI Interview” are two of the most frequently asked questions among aspirants. This article will answer your questions on the SEBI Grade A Interview 2024 preparation as well as provide technical interview tips to help you ace the interview!

SEBI Grade A interview 2024

3 Aspects of Interview Preparation

1. The interview is a test of your personality more than your knowledge

Many students believe that the interview is a test of their knowledge. It is, however, a personality test, not a knowledge test. There is no single correct or incorrect response. The interview panel only looks at how you respond to a question. More than your knowledge, the panel assesses how you are presenting your thoughts. The interviewer evaluates a few of your personality traits. The panel is only trying to judge the suitability of the candidate.

2. The interview begins with questions about yourself

The SEBI interview panel will ask you questions based on the information you provided on your detailed application form. The questions will focus on your birthplace, hobbies, personal information, and your profile. You will not be asked technical questions in the first few minutes of the interview.

3. Technical questions can be generic to your own experience

The word technical here describes the SEBI work and SEBI job Profile. As you plan your responses to the most frequently asked questions, jot down anecdotes and specific examples from your previous work experiences so you can elaborate. The questions will be lined up on your experience, background, skills, and questions about your training and certifications.

What to prepare for the SEBI Grade A interview?

When you are preparing for an interview you have to work on the three basic aspects of the interview. The aspects are Personal, Occupational and Technical respectively. The interview and the questions asked will mainly revolve around these three aspects only.

  • Personal: In this, the panel wants to get to know YOU. They will ask you about yourself, your hobbies, education, professional and personal background, and other such information about yourself. This is your best chance to tell the panel what you want them to know about you, your skills, talents, experience and record in extra-curricular activities that can make you stand out from the other applicants.
  • Occupational: If you want to join SEBI, then you must know about SEBI as an organization, its work, functions, rules & regulations and more. The occupational questions will be targeting the organization you are heading to join and you must expect such questions to come your way.
  • Technical: The term Technical here describes the SEBI work and SEBI job Profile. They want to know about your technical education and training, as well as how it has prepared you for the position you are applying for. Make sure to mention any special certifications, coursework, or training you’ve received, as well as any academic accomplishments relevant to the position you’re applying for when answering these questions.

Sample Technical Questions

The technical questions can be varied from generic to specific. The universe of the questions may include questions from the economy, financial markets, capital markets, SEBI, and also current issues.

Economy

SEBI is the regulator of the economy and the financial markets of the country. Thus, any slight change in the economy will affect the work of SEBI. Knowing the economy and the proportionality it plays with the financial stability of the country must be known by you.

  • Single securities Market code
  • Setting up of regulated gold exchange
  • Corporate debt market – institutional framework
  • IPO of LIC
  • Disinvestment target and role of markets
  • Economic survey inspired: the Credit rating of India, Opinion on V-shaped recovery, and more
  • Implications of Fiscal policy and Monetary policy
  • Models related to Regression

Financial Markets

Financial markets encompass any marketplace where securities are traded, such as the stock market, bond market, forex market, and derivatives market, to name a few. Therefore, they are necessary for capitalist economies to function properly. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) keeps a close eye on the financial markets.

Sample Questions:

  • What are financial markets?
  • Importance of financial markets
  • Need of regulation in financial markets
  • Role of FPI in financial markets of a country
  • Why do we need to develop a corporate debt market in India?

Capital Markets

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is in charge of regulating the Indian capital markets. By enforcing certain rules and regulations, it monitors and regulates the securities market and protects the interests of investors. Questions based on this topic are more likely to come to you in your interview.

Sample Questions:

Begin by understanding the exam pattern and job requirements thoroughly. This will help you streamline your preparation. Once you have a clear idea of what the job entails, you can align your study plan accordingly, focusing on key areas and ensuring that you cover the important topics in a structured manner.
  • Importance of RBI Grade B Mock Tests: Regularly taking the RBI Grade B mock tests is crucial for effective RBI Grade B preparation. Mock tests allow you to gauge your progress, identify weaknesses, and get familiar with the exam’s format. By assessing your performance in these tests, you can adjust your study plan to focus on areas that need improvement. Mock tests also help with time management, a critical skill to perform well during the actual exam.
  • Creating a Customized Study Plan: If you find the syllabus vast or challenging, break it down into smaller, more manageable parts. Customizing your study plan according to your strengths and weaknesses is essential. A structured plan allows you to cover every section comprehensively. Dedicate 5-8 months to General Awareness and stay updated with current affairs, especially as the exam date approaches. Use BeePedia to regularly test your General Awareness skills. This methodical approach ensures that no section is left out.
  • Preparing for Descriptive Papers: For the Descriptive papers, consistent writing practice is essential. Do not assume you’ll perform well without preparation. Regularly write practice answers and get feedback from peers or professionals. This will help you refine your writing style, ensuring that your answers are clear, concise, and well-structured. Practice also improves your ability to respond to different types of questions confidently and effectively.
  • Balancing Work and Preparation: As a working professional, aim to put in 2-3 hours a day, totaling about 18 hours a week for RBI Grade B preparation. Consistency is key. Balancing work and studies requires discipline, but with a steady schedule, you can manage both effectively. Prioritize your time by focusing on your weakest areas, and gradually build up your knowledge to stay on track and make progress without overwhelming yourself.
  • Cracking the Interview and Maintaining Consistency: The RBI Grade B interview is a crucial and decisive phase. It’s essential to be well-prepared, both in terms of self-awareness and current affairs. Regularly take mock interviews and work on feedback to improve your presentation and communication skills. Structure your responses well, as how you say something is just as important as what you say. Remember, consistency throughout your preparation is key to succeeding in this exam.

Now, please watch the video to learn more about how to crack the RBI Grade B exam from the horse’s mouth. We hope you find his experience useful and inspirational. If you would like to ask us to ask Shivam any more questions, please let us know.

We are confident that her preparation and journey will inspire many RBI aspirants. This is why, in this interview, we will try to understand:

  • Why was she not able to clear the RBI Grade B exam on her first attempt?
  • How did Tanya juggle her full-time job and her studies?
  • Why did Tanya choose to try for the Generalist post and not DEPR?

Meet Tanya

Tanya is the quintessential jack of all trades. Tanya earned her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Delhi University and completed her MSc in Economics from Shiv Nadar University. She has explored many fields and held many positions before realizing and deciding that RBI Grade B is her calling. She has been working as Bank PO at Canara Bank while simultaneously preparing for her RBI exam. We are most happy to see that Tanya’s hard work has borne fruit.

Bank PO Clears RBI Grade B: Highlights

Let us go over the highlights from Tanya’s interview with Mr. Susheel Ragade.

  • Tanya cleared the Bank PO exam before deciding to pursue her RBI dream. She conducted her RBI Grade B exam preparation as a working professional while working as a Bank PO at a prestigious PSB.
  • As aforementioned, Tanya is not an engineer by education. Often, candidates are discouraged by the Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning sections because they feel only those with engineering backgrounds can clear these sections properly. Tanya has proved this notion wrong.
  • Tanya considers herself an average student. However, she has proven that through dedication and tireless effort, all “average” students can clear the RBI exam.
  • She took the help of RBI Grade B mock tests to strengthen her preparation.
  • Tanya’s experience with her job as a researcher helped her to hone her writing skills. She drew upon her article-writing experience to write the best descriptive answers with clarity and relevant content.
  • Consistency and discipline are most important. Tanya has shown how discipline can go a long way in achieving your goal, whatever your goal may be. She would rest for half an hour after coming back home from her job and study earnestly every evening after work.
  • According to Tanya, a career with the RBI is not only great for your professional growth but is equally beneficial for your personal growth as well. You will get immense exposure and opportunities to develop and exhibit your skills.
  • A piece of advice that Tanya has offered to all aspirants is that there are different challenges that all of us face on a daily basis. If you want to build your career with the RBI, you will have to rise above these challenges and reach your goal. There is no ideal or hurdle-free time to begin working on your goals, therefore, begin today.

RBI Grade B Interview

Tanya says that she was not able to perform well in any of her RBI Grade mock interviews. However, she made a point to give as many mock interviews as she could. Moreover, she made it a habit to make note of every point of feedback that she received. Although she made many mistakes in her mock interviews, she finally made the best of it and shone in her interview. Everything that she learned from her mistakes helped her to ultimately clear the RBI Grade B Interview.

We sincerely encourage you to watch Tanya’s entire interview with Susheel Ragade sir so that you can get a holistic picture of her RBI Grade B exam preparation. We are sure her diligence and dedication will inspire you all as well.

Read here how to ANY interview in style by learning about the types of questions asked in an interview, what to say, how to conduct yourself in an interview and other related themes.

So, you have cleared your written exam and the dream of becoming a government officer is now within reach. Isn’t it?  ixamBee helped you in your journey to clear the written exams but our association doesn’t end with just the exam part. The next stage is the Interview and we will help you to pass it with flying colours!

Getting jittery about the INTERVIEW? It’s quite obvious to feel so, but in reality, there is no need to feel so. What matters the most is your confidence. Apart from that, if you know what type of questions will be asked in an interview then you are all set to ace it in style!

How to Ace an Interview?

In General, interview questions can be divided into three parts. Let us go over each of them one by one.

Personal

First would be the Personal Questions: This is the most important part of the interview. In every interview, there will be questions like:

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Tell me about your educational qualification and work experience.
  • Why are you interested in a banking job?
  • What makes you the most suitable candidate for this job?
  • How your previous work experience will help you in this job?
  • Achievements and failures, you have faced, lessons learned.
  • Questions on hobbies, strengths, weaknesses, books you have read, etc
  • Your favourite subject, book, author, politician, actor, song, etc.

Many students don’t prepare for this part expecting this to be easy. But this part is where you can prepare definite and convincing replies. You need to be ready with the counter questions, thus preparing your answers with supporting reasons. Also, remember that each answer you say will lead to another question, so you can plan for these answers well and actually try and mold your interview in your own way to some extent.

A personal interview has maximum weight in the interview, you need to have clear objective replies and you need to demonstrate conviction and confident articulation.

There are no right or wrong answers to these questions but what you say and how you say matters a lot. What is being looked at is your Confidence level, your attitude and your ability to communicate well.

How to Ace an Interview

Technical/Job-Oriented

The second would be Technical Questions:

You are going for a bank job; thus, you need to know about the job and the industry. Please understand that interviewers are seasoned bankers and they appreciate you more if you talk in their language/ terminology. This section can have endless questions, varying in difficulty level. Some examples could be:

  • What are retail banking, MSME, and corporate banking?
  • Why banking is important?
  • What do you know about XYZ Bank, for which you are being interviewed?
  • What do you know about the functions of a bank?
  • How do banks help in social and economic development?
  • What is NPA (Non-Performing Asset) in banking? How NPAs are generated and how banks can address these?
  • What is the existing problem of increasing NPAs in banks?
  • What is Financial Inclusion?
  • What is KYC (Know Your Customer) and why it is important?
  • What is risk management in banks?
  • What is SWOT analysis?

Moreover, there can be technical questions related to your education and work experience or on something you have mentioned in your bio-data. Unlike in the case of personal questions, here questions have a definite answer. If you do not know the answer, please say “sorry, I don’t know”, if you bluff you will be in trouble.

Not knowing the answer to technical questions is perfectly fine but if your reply is something absurd it will definitely put a wrong impression.

General Discussion/General Awareness

Third would be General Discussion and Current Affairs – These questions will be mostly based on the major events in the current political and economic environment.

  • What are the 3 major political events of recent times?
  • What is G20?
  • What are India and China standoff at Doklam?
  • Why Kashmir issue has not been solved after 70 years of independence?
  • How will the policy of Mr. Joe Biden affect the Indian economy?
  • Is growth equitably distributed in the Indian economy?

This list can be huge. For the preparation for these, you need to regularly read newspapers and some current affairs magazines. You should not express strong political opinions (even if you have), because if someone in the interview panel has a strong opposite opinion you are finished. Otherwise, also strong political opinions are not recommended in any formal discussion. Remember Diplomacy is the Best Policy!!

As Always, Don’t Stress, Do Your Best and Forget the Rest!

All the Best!

To help you prepare 50% faster for competitive exams, ixamBee provides free Mock Test Series all the Current Affairs in English and Current Affairs in Hindi in the BeePedia capsules for GA Preparation. The UPSC EPFO Enforcement Officer and Accounts Officer (EO/AO) Interview 2021 is expected to be held in late December. Now that you have successfully cleared the UPSC EPFO written Recruitment Test, we hope you have nose-dived into your Interview preparation.

In this article, we are going to go over the UPSC EPFO EO/AO Interview details and try to understand how you can prepare for it effectively.

Why Prepare for an Interview?

Interviews are a very important part of any selection process. However, unfortunately, over the years we have observed that aspirants take these Interviews very lightly. They misguidedly understand these to be a chit-chat session before they are offered the job/admission. If you feel that way as well, we would like to tell you that you could not be farther from the truth.

UPSC EPFO EO/AO Interview

UPSC EPFO EO/AO Interview Details

  • The Interview will be held for 100 marks.
  • It will carry 25% of weightage with respect to the entire selection process. So the weightage of the written exam to the Interview is 75:25.

UPSC EPFO EO/AO Interview Preparation

  • Firstly, and most importantly, give your Interview preparation its due importance. Do not think you will “wing it” on the day of the Interview.
  • Read up about the organization, the job profile and other information related to it.
  • Be prepared with answers to some standard questions like:
    • Why should we select you?
    • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
    • Why are you the best candidate for this job?
  • Expect the unexpected. In contrast to the last point, you can never really expect what you may be asked in an Interview. Moreover, if you are a serious aspirant, we’re sure you know that UPSC aspirants have all kinds of googlies thrown at them during the Interview.
  • In case you are asked a question to which you do not know the answer, politely tell the panel that. Do not try to make stuff up offhand. Please remember the Interview conducting dais consists of a panel of experts.
  • Practice with mock interviews.
  • In case of any confusion, always seek guidance from experts.
  • Develop a sound knowledge of labour laws in India.
  • Do not think you can prepare for the Interview in 1 or 2 days before the day of the Interview.

UPSC EPFO EO/AO Interview: Some Other Tips

  • Be sure to reach your Interview venue well in advance. Under no circumstance should you be late.
  • Be mindful of your posture and body language. Your body language speaks before your words do.
  • Make decent eye-contact. Not too much, not too little.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • There is no pressure to speak in English. Please speak in a vernacular you are comfortable with. The aim is to get your point across.
  • Look confident, feel confident.

If you are looking for experts to guide you with your preparation, look no further. ixamBee’s UPSC EPFO (EO/AO) Interview Online Course will provide you with a wholistic, 1-stop solution.

Congratulations on acing the written exam. You are now one step closer to your goal of becoming a bank officer. We are glad that ixamBee has helped you in your journey to clear the written exams, however our association does not end here as the next stage, the interview round is still pending. Donot panic, we are here with some bank interview tips which will help you prepare for the interview.

It is natural to feel anxious about the interview round, but with the correct preparation and confidence you can come out with flying colors. Apart from that, if you know what type of questions will be asked in an interview, then you will be all set to ace it in style!

Predicting the exact questions which may be asked in the interview is difficult, however based on our experience we have suggested a few favorite areas from which questions are generally asked to the applicants

girl

Personal Questions

This is the most important part of the interview and will be asked in almost all bank interviews. The interviewers will usually ask you to tell them something about yourself. Talk about your educational qualification and work experience. Revise well about the various subjects you studied during your graduation and/or post-graduation as questions may be asked about them. Talk about your strengths and weaknesses and your achievements and failures and the lessons learnt. Talk in a positive manner about your weaknesses and how you are working on them.  Discuss about your hobbies, books you have read, your favorite subject, authors, politicians, actors, songs and many more. State your reasons for choosing a banking career. Convince them that you are the most suitable candidate for this job by explaining how your previous work experience will help you in this job.

Many students are not able to prepare for this part due to lack of the right guidance and strategies. With ixambee’s experienced teachers and faculty, you can get an ace up your sleeve and be confident about the interview round. Apart from the above bank interview tips, you also need to be ready for some counter questions. Personal questions have maximum weightage in the interview, hence, you need to have clear objective replies and you need to demonstrate conviction and confident articulation. There is no right or wrong answer for these questions but what you say and how you say matters a lot. What is being looked at is your confidence level, your attitude and your ability to communicate well.

·         Banking Knowledge Based Questions :

Since you are applying for a banking industry position, you should have good knowledge about the sector and the industry. Please understand that interviewers are seasoned bankers and they would appreciate you more if you are able to use the banking industry’s terminology. This section can have many questions, varying in difficulty level. Some examples could be:

  • Why is banking important?
  • Talk about the latest technologies used in banking like Internet, Mobile & SMS banking.
  • You might be asked the bank you are being interviewed? Visit the bank’s website to gain insights on how it works and make a list of the size of the bank, its position in the industry, the kind of services it provides and other details.
  • What is Repo rate, Reverse Repo Rate, CRR, RTGS, NEFT, etc.
  • How banks help in social and economic development?
  • Do you know about NPA (Non Performing Asset) in banking? What is the existing problem of increasing NPAs in banks?
  • Tell us about Financial Inclusion?
  • What is the importance of KYC (Know Your Customer)?

Moreover, there can be technical questions related to your education and work experience or on something you have mentioned in your bio-data. Unlike in the case of personal questions, here questions have a definite answer. If you do not know the answer, do not try to bluff your way out of it, rather be straight forward and reply that you do not know the answer. Not knowing the answer of a technical question is perfectly reasonable but if you reply something absurd it will definitely put a wrong impression.

·         General Discussion and Current Affairs

These questions will be mostly based on the major events on current political and economic environment. The interviewer will expect you to be familiar with the current issues and trends in the economy in general and the Indian banking sector in particular as well. Revise last 2-3 weeks important news, headlines as questions may be asked directly from them.

The set of questions could be huge and for preparing for this section, you need to regularly read newspaper and some current affairs magazines. You should not express strong political opinions (even if you have), because if someone in the interview panel has a strong opposite opinion, it could harm your chances of being selected. Otherwise, also strong political opinions are not recommended in any formal discussion. Diplomacy is the Best Policy, be diplomatic and tactfully handle sensitive issues.

Apart from above bank interview tips, another important part of preparation is to prepare a good resume. The resume should be simple and should contain only key information regarding your candidature as the interviewers do not have much time to read it. Keep only the information which you are confident about especially in the hobbies and interests section, as questions might be asked regarding them.

During the preparatory stage of the interview, do not become anxious or stress too much about it as it affects your mental and physical health and your body language. Interviewers get a lot of signals from your body language. So, do maintain eye contact and a pleasant outlook during the interview. Half the battle is won because of non-verbal language.

Do check out ixamBee interview course for Bank PO, RBI Grade B, SEBI Grade A and NABARD Grade A/B if you need more assistance.
