RRB JE Examination 2019

Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) recently announced 13,487 vacancies for the post of RRB ‘JE’ ( Junior Engineer) 2019. RRB conducts various written examinations for recruitment in various RRBs. Recently, it has released a notification for the post of Junior Engineers (JE). This is one of the best opportunities for those who search for jobs in the technical field, which are promising as well as secure in the long term. This recent RRB JE notification gives a good chance to all aspirants who are searching for a good, rewarding career for themselves. To outperform in this examination, and to ensure a full-proof success over others, it is extremely necessary to know about the complete details of the RRB JE examination. The important details of an examination that should be known to each aspirant can be divided into different parts as follows –

  • RRB JE Notification – Date of exam, vacancies, date of result, etc.
  • RRB JE Exam Pattern
  • RRB JE Syllabus
  • RRB JE Study Material – which books to study?
  • RRB JE Eligibility

These are the major important details that any aspirant willing to appear in an examination should be aware of. Read on to know about RRB JE 2019 Exam pattern, syllabus and study material in detail.

RRB JE 2019 – Exam Pattern

The recruitment process for the post of RRB JE involves many stages and a candidate should be well informed and well prepared for all these stages, in order to ensure you come out with flying colours after the final stage is over. You can read the details of the notification here to know more about the examination and other standard procedure. The RRB JE examination is conducted in four phases –

    • CBT or Computer Based Test – Ist stage
    • CBT or Computer Based Test – IInd stage
  • Document Verification
  • Medical Examination

Let’s look into the exam pattern for the two phases of the written examination – CBT 1 & CBT 2:

RRB JE 2019 – CBT 1st Stage

The RRB JE – CBT -1 covers four subjects in the first stage of computer-based test, that are more or less similar to  other government examinations that test a candidate’s basic knowledge. The questions will be asked in the form of Multiple Choice Questions. The time duration is following the usual pattern of composite timing. Thus, RRB JE 2019 exam will be providing composite time for all the four subjects / sections. The exam would also contain ‘negative marking’. For every incorrect answer, 1 / 3rd of the marks allotted will be deducted. Thus, a candidate will have to be alert enough while attempting the exam, stay composed and not rush into attempting more number of questions, to avoid committing too many errors, keeping the time duration in mind.

The complete details of the pattern are as follows:-

RRB JE Exam Pattern – CBT Ist STAGE

S.No Subjects No. of Questions Marks Duration
1. Mathematics 30 30 90 minutes
2. General Intelligence & Reasoning 25 25
3. General Awareness 15 15
4. General Science 30 30
Total 100 100

The minimum passing percentage in the RRB JE  examination for various categories is specified as follows –

  • General – 40%
  • OBC – 30%
  • SC30%
  • ST25%

Thus, all those candidates who qualify the examination, crossing the above-specified percentages according to the respective categories, will be intimated for the second stage of CBT.

Let’s look into the pattern of the CBT – Stage 2.

RRB JE 2019 – CBT IInd STAGE

Once a candidate qualifies the first stage of CBT, he/she will have to prepare for the second stage of Computer-based test (CBT). The candidates’ marks obtained in the CBT – 1st stage will be normalized and based on those marks, the candidates will be shortlisted. The number of candidates that will be called in the second stage of CBT will be almost 15 times the community wise total of the vacancies of all the posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in 1st Stage CBT.

The RRB JE 2019 – CBT – IInd Stage will consist of five subjects out of which the questions will be asked in the same MCQ pattern. All details are as follows:-

RRB JE Exam Pattern – CBT IInd STAGE

S.No Subjects No. of Questions Marks Duration
1. General Awareness 15 15 120 Minutes
2. Physics & Chemistry 15 15
3. Basics of Computers and Applications 10 10
4. Basics of Environment and Pollution Control 10 10
5. Technical Abilities 100 100
150 150

  • The minimum passing percentage marks will be the same as in CBT – I.
  • CBT – II will also contain negative marking of 1/3rd marks, as in CBT- I.
  • The facility of virtual calculator on the computer screen will be made available in CBT – II.
  • What is a virtual calculator?

A ‘virtual calculator’ is the one that is provided online, on the computer screen that appears while giving an online examination. As all the exams are in an online mode these days, but all of them do not allow physical calculators inside the exam hall.

There are selected exams where you are allowed to use a calculator and the exam being in online mode, an online calculator called the ‘virtual calculator’ is provided.

The word ‘virtual’ means something that is not present in physical form and can be done or seen using a computer.

So, the next step is to get all information related to the syllabus, so that you can start your preparation in a better and proper way.
