The suspension of the sedition provision from the country's penal law by the Supreme Court has worked in the favour of free speech. This brings some relief to the people who are calling for the abrogation of Section 124A of IPC. The Court hopes that the Central/State government will refrain from registering fresh cases under this provision or continuing with any investigation. The Union government has itself decided to re-examine the and reconsider the provision. If any fresh case is registered against a person, the Court has given liberty to the people to approach the jurisdiction courts. Therefore, it is time for the government to take effective steps to prevent its misuse.
