The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad summit meeting was held recently. Apart from the Ukraine war, rising pressures and the lingering effects of Covid-19, the Quad also discussed the China factor and the unique strategic challenges that that country poses to the rules-based international order. The US and Japan condemned Russia’s belligerence, India and Australia avoided any direct reference to Moscow. However, with respect to China, the four nations were on the same page, and the Quad joint statement called for continued cooperation towards maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.
