SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2024: Educational Qualifications

Candidates need to possess certain specified SSC CGL eligibility criteria based requirements to ensure their eligibility for the SSC CGL exam according to the new notification. You need to be a Graduate (in any discipline) to fulfill SSC CGL eligibility criteria. However, the educational qualification requirement differs and is specific for a few SSC CGL posts.   • During the period of probation direct recruits shall have to qualify the “Subordinate Audit/ Accounts Service Examination” in respective branches for confirmation and regular appointment as Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer.
Junior Statistical Officer

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level

Or

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

Statistical Investigator Grade-II Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects from a recognized University or Institute. The candidates must have 10 studied Statistics as a subject in all the three years or all the 6 semesters of the graduation course.
Assistant in National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT)
  • Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute.
  • Desirable Qualifications: Degree in law from a recognized university.
Research Assistant in National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)
  • Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
    • • Minimum one-year research experience in any recognized university or recognized Research Institution
    • • Degree in Law or Human Rights from a recognized university.
All other Posts Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2024: Age Limit 

One of the most worrisome things before applying for an exam is to check the age limit for the concerned post(s). As for the SSC CGL eligibility criteria, various posts require different age limit criteria. However, the cut-off date for all posts will be as specified in the notification, which is strictly to be followed. 

Candidates must be at least 18 years old to be eligible. However, there are maximum age limits that vary according to the specific post applied for and the candidate’s category (such as General, OBC, SC, ST etc.). 

It is important that you consider your age effective as of the closing date of the examination application. So make sure you meet the age criteria by that date. SSC CGL Age Relaxation 

The SSC CGL eligibility criteria provides relaxation in the upper age limit to the candidates belonging to the reserved categories. The period of relaxation will vary for each of the mentioned categories. Complete details of the relaxation in the SSC CGL age limit for OBC and other reserved categories for the SSC CGL exam notification are given below.

Please note: The relaxation meant for ESM (Ex-servicemen) will not be applicable to anyone else (except the Ex-serviceman), who is related to an Ex-servicemen in any way (son/daughter/dependents) as per the SSC CGL eligibility criteria.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria: Nationality/Citizenship: 

According to the SSC CGL eligibility criteria, a candidate must be either: 

  • a citizen of India, or 
  • a subject of Nepal, or 
  • a subject of Bhutan, or 
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. 

Candidates in either of the above category should produce a certificate of eligibility, issued by Government of India in their favour, as part of SSC CGL eligibility criteria, for them to be eligible to apply for the SSC CGL exam. 

Work Experience 

While work experience can be beneficial, it's not always mandatory for all positions. SSC CGL aims to provide opportunities for individuals at various stages of their careers, from fresh graduates to experienced professionals. The SSC CGL exam is a great opportunity for fresh graduates because for majority of posts work experience is not mandatory, as per the recently released SSC CGL eligibility criteria, except for selected few posts like Research Assistant in National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), where a minimum one year research experience from any recognized university or recognized Research Institution was mandatory. In short, candidates who have recently completed their graduation are eligible to apply for the position based on their educational qualifications, for various posts under SSC CGL exam. Here is the breakdown of work experience required for various levels of posts under the SSC CGL eligibility criteria: 

  • Entry Level Position: Many entry positions do not require any prior work experience. These roles are open to fresh graduates or individuals with limited work experience.
  • A Technical Field: The specialized field may require specific qualifications or prior work experience to ensure that the candidate is aware of the basic information regarding the job role. Such fields include roles such as accounting, auditing, or law enforcement.
  • Experience-Based Qualifications: Positions that require a specific tenure of experience in a related field, apply to mid- or senior-level positions that require some skill.
  • Preferred Experience: Although optional or relevant work experience can strengthen your application and improve your chances of selection. These experiences can be in the form of internships, part-time work, or volunteering in related fields.
  • Training Programme: In some cases, candidates selected for the post of SSC CGL may be given a training program to enhance the required skills and experience in the job.

Document Verification 

  • To speed up the hiring process for government jobs, the User Departments/Organizations will handle Document Verification as directed by the Commission. 
  • All candidates qualified for the post must appear for Document Verification along with the photocopies and original documents. 
  • Before the document verification stage, candidates will get a chance to choose their preferred posts and departments through an Online Option Form on the Commission's website before the final result is announced. If a candidate doesn't pick their preferences, they won't be considered for those posts or departments. Once options are submitted, they can't be changed later. So, candidates should be careful when choosing their options. 
  • Candidates who don't choose their preferred posts on the Commission's website within the given time won't be considered for any post in the final result. They won't get another chance to pick posts. The Commission won't accept any complaints about this through Post, Fax, Email, or in person; they'll be rejected right away.
