A secondary mineral is one resulting from the weathering of a primary mineral, either by an alteration in the structure or from reprecipitation of the products of weathering (dissolution) of a primary mineral. Common secondary minerals include topaz, zircon, corundum, fluorite, garnet, monazite, rutile, magnetite, ilmenite, allanite, and tourmaline.
