    Solution

Statement A tells us that an empire can be caused to fall by its enemies. Statement Q mentions that one (empire) which deteriorates from the inside cannot rise again (dead forever). Both the statements are of contrasting nature, hence, the connector but (used in subordinating clauses) can be used to connect the sentences. Thus, A3Q makes a combination - "An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again, but one that crumbles from within is dead forever." Statement B tells us that the woods get dark (filled with shadows) before 8 o'clock. Statement S however, mentions that the trunk of trees were faintly bright due to the sunlight. The two sentences are of contrasting nature and hence, the connector 'though' (despite the fact that) can be used to connect the two sentences. Thus, B5S makes a combination - "Though the woods were already filled with shadows one June evening, just before eight o'clock, a bright sunset still glimmered faintly among the trunks of the trees." Statement E tells us that a child has the ability to learn. Statement P mentions the element necessary for the child so that it can learn. The connector 'provided', which is used when a pre-existing condition is met, can be used to connect the sentences. Thus, E2P makes a combination - "A child comes into the world with the ability to learn, and he learns of himself, provided he is supplied with sufficient outward stimulus."
