•Nagaland has established its first HIV-1 viral load laboratory at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK). •The laboratory will enable viral load testing for people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Nagaland. •India, as a signatory of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3.3, aims to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. •Nagaland has approximately 12,290 PLHIV under treatment, making it the state with the second-highest number of HIV positive cases in India. •Viral load testing helps determine if a person is responding to the drug treatment. If the viral load does not decrease, alternative treatment options are required. •The laboratory will support doctors in providing accurate treatment to PLHIV.
