The 2023 World Aquatics Championships, the 20th edition of the World Aquatics Championships, are being held in Fukuoka, Japan, from 14 to 30 July 2023. Kate Douglass, a 21-year-old American swimmer, won her first gold medal in the 200m individual medley at the swimming worlds in Fukuoka, Japan. She overtook her University of Virginia teammate and defending world champion Alex Walsh in the last 50 meters. Kate Douglass previously earned five silver or bronze medals from the Olympics and world championships. Summer McIntosh from Canada holds the world's best time in 200m IM, but she didn't swim the event at the worlds due to schedule conflicts.
