The Ministry of Home Affairs launched the "Scheme for Expansion and Modernization of Fire Services in the States" with a total outlay of Rs. 5,000 crore. Rs. 500 crore is kept for incentivizing states based on legal and infrastructure-based reforms. The objective is to strengthen fire services in states and make India disaster-resilient. States seeking funds under the scheme must contribute 25% (10% for NEH states) of the total project cost from their budgetary resources. The scheme is funded from the Preparedness and Capacity Building Funding Window of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
