The warship 'Triput' is the first of two Advanced Frigates being constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for the Indian Navy. It was launched on 23 July at the GSL shipyard in Vasco. The Triput-class frigates were contracted on January 25, 2019, and are specifically designed for combat operations against enemy surface ships, submarines, and aircraft. These advanced frigates measure 124.8 meters in length, 15.2 meters in width, have a draught of 4.5 meters, and a displacement of approximately 3,600 tons. They are capable of reaching a maximum speed of 28 knots. The construction of the Triput-class ships is a significant milestone in GSL’s history as it marks a step towards self-reliance in defense production, with a substantial portion of the equipment being of indigenous origin. This initiative also contributes to employment and capability enhancement within India. The launch ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Vice Chief of the Navy Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Vice Admiral Sanjay Singh, and Vice Admiral B Sivakumar.
