Salt Lake City-Utah was named the host of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2034 at the 142nd International Olympic Committee Session in Paris. This will be the second time Utah hosts the Winter Games, the first being in 2002, and it will mark the fifth time the Winter Games are hosted in America. Gene Sykes, USOPC Chair, highlighted the collaborative and forward-looking vision of the Salt Lake team and appreciated the support from the IOC and the Future Host Commission. A key aspect of the bid was the legacy of the 2002 Games, emphasizing the use of existing venues with a sustainable plan that avoids new permanent constructions. This focus on sustainability and leveraging existing infrastructure was a significant factor in their successful bid. The vision for the 2034 Games centers on athletes, with world-class venues near the Athletes’ Village and strong community support for winter sports in Utah.
