But at the time of purchase, two of the boys declined to contribute as a result of which the remaining boys had to pay Rs. 1/- more than they had originally planned. What was the price of the cassettes if the boys contributed equally and in the whole number of rupees?

A Rs. 220/- Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Rs. 210/- Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Rs. 230/- Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Rs. 240/- Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the total number of boys= Y Let the price of cassettes = Rs. C According to question, (C/(Y-2)}-{C/Y} = 1 (CY - CY + 2C)/ Y(Y-2) = 1 2C = Y2 - 2Y So, if we put the value of Y = 22. (We also know C to be between 200 and 250.) Then 2C = =(22)2-2(22) 2C= 48- 44 2C= 440 C = 220. So, the cost price of the cassettes is Rs.220
