    2. Indian federation is the result of an agreement between the states like the American federation.

    3. In India the states are indestructible.

Which of the above statement/s is/are incorrect?

A 1 only Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 2 and 3 only Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 2 only Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 3 only Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ● Statement 1 is correct: The term ‘federation’ is not mentioned in the Constitution. Instead, Article 1 of the Constitution describes India as a ‘Union of States’. ● Statement 2 is incorrect: The Indian federal system is based on the Canadian model and not on the American model. Canadian model is different from the American model as it has a very strong centre which is also one of the features of Indian Constitution. ● Statement 3 is incorrect: In India the states are destructible. Unlike in other federations, the states in India have no right to territorial integrity. The Parliament can by unilateral action change the area, boundaries or name of any state.
