On July 24, 2024, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone by successfully executing the flight test of its Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) System. This test showcased India's defensive prowess against 5000 km-class ballistic missiles. The indigenously developed two-stage, solid-propellant missile system functions effectively across both endo and low exo-atmospheric ranges, ensuring robust defense capabilities. The current BMD setup includes two interceptor missiles: the Prithvi Defence Vehicle for high-altitude engagement and the Advanced Area Defence missile for lower altitudes, collectively enhancing the nation's strategic defense infrastructure.
