    Tamil Nadu agreed to host the Chess Olympiad and provided around ₹75 crore (US$9.4 million). On 15 March 2022, FIDE announced that Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, would be the new host of the event. It was the first time that the Chess Olympiad was hosted in India.
