In January 2016, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal of the Ministry of Power of amendments in the Tariff Policy. The Tariff Policy of 2006 was amended with special focus on Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana. The program focuses on 4 E's: 1. Electricity: 24*7 supply of electricity to all consumers and also increase reach to remote areas. 2. Efficiency: Reduce cost to consumers, installation of smart meters, efficient transmission and distribution. 3. Environment: Using solar and wind energy as alternatives and incentivising the industry with swachh bharat mission as focus. 4. Ease of doing business: Generating employment, reducing complex approval processes, faster processing and clarity in tariffs.
