After enlightenment, Lord Buddha gave his first sermon to his five disciples in a deer park at Sarnath near Varanasi. This event of his life is known as "Dharmachakrapravartana". Thus Dharmachakra Mudra is the gesture of Buddha as depicted in his first sermon.
