    • Schedule VIII of the Indian constitution has given recognition to 22 languages. • Initially, there were 14 languages in the eighth schedule of our constitution. 21st Constitutional Amendment Act (CAA) 1967 added one language (Sindhi), 71st CAA, 1992 added 3 (Konkani, Manipuri, and Nepali). 92nd CAA of 2003 added Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, and Santhali to the eighth schedule making a total of 22 languages.
