· The Danes formed an East India company and arrived in India in 1616. · The Danish East India Company refers to two separate Danish-Norwegian chartered companies. The first company operated between 1616 and 1650. The second company existed between 1670 and 1729, however, in 1730 it was re-founded as the Asiatic Company · They established settlements at Tranquebar in Tamil Nadu in 1620 and at Serampore in Bengal in 1676. Serampore was their headquarters in India. They were not successful in establishing themselves strongly and therefore, in 19th century they sold all their settlements to the British and went back to their country. Anglo - Danish hostilities due to Napoleanic wars also led to the selling of the Dutch settlements in India.
