· Mary Carpenter was an English educational and social reformer who came to India in 1866 and established the National Indian Association to improve communications between Indian and British reformers. She was particularly concerned about the lack of good female education that led to shortage of women teachers, nurses etc. and worked for the upliftment of women’s condition and status of education in India.
