Recently Tamil Nadu got Agasthyamalai Elephant Reserve in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli as its 5th Elephant reserve . The Periyar - Agasthyamalai landscape is estimated to have 1,800 Asian elephants (Census 2010). India has 31 elephant reserves. In the last three years, Dandeli Elephant Reserve has been notified by Karnataka, Singphan Elephant Reserve by Nagaland and Lemru Elephant Reserve in Chhattisgarh . About Tamil Nadu Nilgiris – Eastern Ghat, Nilambur Silent Valley Coimbatore Elephant Reserve, Periyar Elephant Reserve,Anamalai – Parambikulam Elephant Reserve are the rest four elephant reserves in Tamil Nadu .
