The Government of India has appointed Ajay Bhadoo, Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, as the Chief Executive Officer of Government e-Marketplace (GeM). He will perform this role in addition to his existing responsibilities. Bhadoo was appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce in August 2024 and previously served as Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India. His career includes positions as Joint Secretary to former President Ram Nath Kovind and leadership roles at the Gujarat Maritime Board and multiple municipal corporations. Bhadoo holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's in Business Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. The GeM portal, launched in August 2016, serves as the central procurement platform for government entities and has recorded a Gross Merchandise Value of ₹4.58 lakh crore, reflecting 28.65% year-on-year growth.
