The reserve spans 1,751 square kilometers, comprising a 375 square kilometer core area and a 1,276 square kilometer buffer zone. Currently, it houses 5 tigers, including 2 cubs. The park was named after Madho Rao Scindia, the former Maharaja of Gwalior, and was previously used as hunting grounds by Mughal and Scindia rulers.
