The Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution currently recognizes 22 scheduled languages. Initially, the Constitution listed only 14 languages, but additional languages were incorporated through subsequent amendments. The most recent additions—Bodo, Santhali, Maithili, and Dogri—were included in 2003. These scheduled languages receive official recognition for use in government communications, education, administration, and other official purposes, including parliamentary proceedings.
