Decomposition is the breakdown of organic matter into simpler inorganic substances by decomposers (bacteria, fungi, and detritivores). The rate of decomposition depends on several factors, but moisture and temperature are the most significant because: Higher temperatures (25-30°C) increase enzyme activity, speeding up microbial metabolism and decomposition. Moisture availability facilitates microbial growth and enzymatic activity. Very low temperatures (cold climates) or extreme dryness (deserts) slow down decomposition.
