Question

The resistance of a conductor ________ and a

    semiconductor _________ on heating.
A Increases, decreases Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Increases, increases Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Decreases, increases Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Decreases, decreases Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

When the temperature of metallic conductor increases, the velocity of free electrons increases but it also cause increase in amplitude of vibration of metallic atoms which cause some extra hindrance or resistance in the path of free electron. Hence resistance increases in investing the temperature whereas the resistance of a semiconductor decreases with increase in temperature and vice versa. Hence, option A is correct.
