    Let present age of father and son be 7x and 4x respectively. According to question,   => (7x – 4) (4x – 4) = 31 × (4x – 4)   => (7x – 4) = 31 => 7x = 35   => x = 5 Therefore, son’s age 3 years ago = (4x – 3) = 17 years
