    Solution

    Sum of marks scored by him in five subjects = 5 x 85 = 425 Sum of marks scored by him (excluding his highest and lowest marks) = 3 x 65 = 195 Therefore, sum of highest and lowest marks = 425 – 195 = 230 So, highest marks scored by him = 230 – 50 = 180
