Question

Each side of square ‘A’ is 4 cm less than that of square ‘B’. The perimeter of a rectangle is 3 times the difference of the perimeters of the two square. If the length of the rectangle is 20 cm, then find its breadth.

A 9 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 8 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 4 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 12 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let each side of the square ‘A’ be ‘a’ cm Therefore, each side of square ‘B’ = (a + 4) cm Difference between their perimeters = 4(a + 4) – 4a = 16 cm Therefore, perimeter of the rectangle = 3 × 16 = 48 cm Let the breadth of the rectangle be ‘b’ cm According to the question, 2 × (20 + b) = 48 Or, 20 + b = 24 Or, b = 4 cm
