Question

Each side of square ‘A’ is 5 cm less than that of

square ‘B’. The perimeter of a rectangle is 2 times the difference of the perimeters of the two square. If the length of the rectangle is 10 cm, then find its breadth.
A 9 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 8 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 10 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 12 cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let each side of the square ‘A’ be ‘a’ cm Therefore, each side of square ‘B’ = (a + 5) cm Difference between their perimeters = 4(a + 5) – 4a = 20 cm Therefore, perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × 20 = 40 cm Let the breadth of the rectangle be ‘b’ cm According to the question, 2 × (10 + b) = 40 Or, 10 + b = 20 Or, b = 10 cm
