A container contains a mixture of wine and water in the

ratio of 4:1. 150 litres of the mixture was taken out and 50 litres of water was added to it. If the water was 40% in the resultant mixture, what was the initial quantity of the mixture in the container?
A 345 ltr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 300 ltr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 260 ltr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 168 ltr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 600 ltr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Wine water 4xx Total = 5 x 150 litre of mixture taken out Wine = 4/5×150 = 120 Water = 1/5×150 = 30 Left Wine in mixture =4x– 120 Left Water = (x – 30) + 50 = x + 20 According to the question (x+20)/(4x-120)=40/60 60 x + 1200 = 160x – 4800 100x = 6000 ∴ x= 60 Initial quantity of mixture = 4 x + x = 5 x Initial quantity of mixture = 5 (60) = 300 litres
