Question

Quantity of water in a 400 litres mixture (alcohol + water) is 40 litres less than the quantity of alcohol in it. Find the quantity of water to be mixed so that the quantity of alcohol in the mixture becomes 50% of the whole mixture.

A 20 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 50 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 40 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 80 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Quantity of water in the mixture = (400 – 40)/2 = 180 litres So, Quantity of alcohol in the mixture = (400 – 180) = 220 litres Total quantity of the mixture = 220 x (100/50) = 440 litres Therefore, quantity of water to be mixed = 440 – 400 = 40 litres
