Question

A vessel contains 120 litres of mixture (milk + water)

in which milk and water are in the ratio 3:7, respectively. If 40 litres of this mixture is taken out and replaced by 25 litres of milk, then what would be the ratio of quantities of milk and water in the resulting mixture?
A 7:5 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 9:11 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 7:8 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 7:11 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ, Initially, Quantity of milk in the mixture = 120 × (3/10) = 36 litres Quantity of water in the mixture = 120 × (7/10) = 84 litres Quantity of milk taken out = 40 × (3/10) = 12 litres Quantity of water taken out = 40 - 12 = 28 litres After removal and addition, Quantity of milk = 36 - 12 + 25 = 49 litres Quantity of water = 84 - 28 = 56 litres Ratio of quantity of milk to that of water = 49:56 = 7:8
