Question

There are two containers having equal quantities of mixtures of two chemical types A and B. The 1st container contains 45% of type A chemical whereas the 2nd container contains 55% of type B chemical. If the mixtures from both the containers are mixed together, then find the percent of the type A chemical in the resultant mixture.

A 25% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 20% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 45% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 35% Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ, Let the mixture in each container be 100 litres. Quantity of type A chemical in 1st container = 100 × 45% = 45 litres. Quantity of type B chemical in 2nd container = 100 × 55% = 55 litres. Quantity of type A chemical in 2nd container = 100 – 55 = 45 litres. Quantity of final mixture = 100 + 100 = 200 litres. Quantity of type A chemical in final mixture = 45 + 45 = 90 litres. Percent of Type A chemical in final mixture = 90/200 × 100 = 45%.
