Question
A fuel tank at a depot has a
capacity of 500 liters. The attendant sells 50 liters of diesel to one customer and then refills the tank with water. This process continues with five customers. Approximately, how much pure diesel will the sixth customer receive if they buy 50 liters of fuel?Solution
ATQ,
The first customer receives pure diesel. Quantity of pure diesel sold to the 2nd customer = 50×(450/500) = 45 liters. After each transaction, the quantity of pure diesel reduces to (9/10) of the previous volume. Thus, the amount of pure diesel sold to the 6th customer = 50×(9/10)⁵. The 6th customer will receive approximately 29.52 liters of pure diesel.
