    ratio of 4:3. If 40 liters of milk and 'x' liters of water are added to it, the new ratio of milk to water becomes 6:5. Determine the value of 'x'.

    Solution

    Quantity of milk in 350 litres of mixture = 350 × [4/(4 + 3)] = 200 litres Quantity of water in 350 litres of mixture = 350 – 200 = 150 litres According to the question; (200 + 40)/(150 + x) = 6/5 Or, 1200 = 900 + 6x Or, x = 50
