Question

Tanvi has 5 pencils, and Mahima has 4 pencils. When

Khurram joins them, all 9 pencils are redistributed equally among the three, meaning each person gets an equal share of pencils. Since Khurram initially had no pencils, he compensates Tanvi and Mahima with Rs. 21 in total. The money is divided between Tanvi and Mahima in proportion to the number of pencils they contributed to Khurram. What is the difference in the amounts received by Tanvi and Mahima?
A Rs. 8 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Rs. 12 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Rs. 14 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Rs. 7 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E Rs. 1 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

In total (5+4)/3= 9 /3 = 3 pencils were distributed among three people.
It means Tanvi has given (5-3) = 2 pencils to Khurram and Mahima has given (4 - 3) = 1 pencil to Khurram. Since Tanvi and Mahima receive the amount in ratio of the donations, thus Tanvi receives = (21 X 2)/3 =Rs.14 and Mahima receives = (21 X 1)/3 = 7
    Thus the difference = (14-7) = Rs. 7
