Question

The marks scored by a boy in three subjects are in the ratio 4 : 3 : 2. Boy scored an overall aggregate of 60% in the exam. If the maximum marks in each subject are the same, in how many subjects did boy score more than 55% marks?

A One Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Three Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C none Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Two Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Let the maximum marks in each subject be 100.
    ∴ Total score = 60% of (100 + 100 + 100) = 60% of (300) = 180
    Also, 55% marks in a subject correspond to 55% of (100) = 55
Let a boy have scored 4x, 3x and 2x in the three subjects.
    ∴ 4x + 3x + 2x = 180
    ∴ 9x = 180 i.e. x = 20
Hence, his marks in the three subjects are 80, 60 and 40.
Hence, he has scored more than 55 in exactly two subject.
