Question
Mohan goes to a sports shop with some money. He can buy
100 footballs or 50 basketballs with the money with him. However, instead of spending the entire amount, he saves 12% of the amount for a charity and buys 15 basketballs and some footballs. Find the percentage of number of footballs he can purchase now out of the initial number of footballs he could have purchased.Solution
ATQ Let the amount of money with Mohan be Rs. '500f' So, the price of 1 football = (500/100) = Rs. '5f' Also, the price of 1 basketball = (500/50) = Rs. '10f' ATQ; Amount retained for charity = 0.12 X 500f = Rs. '60f' Price of 15 basketballs = 15 X 10f = Rs. '150f' Remaining amount = 500f - 60f - 150f = Rs. '290f' So, number of footballs he can purchase now = (290f/5f) = 58 Therefore, required percent = (58/100) X 100 = 58%
