Question

In the following questions, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give the answers.

    I. 5x² - 28x + 39 = 0

    II. 2y² - 13y + 20 = 0

    A x > y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B x ≥ y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C x < y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D x ≤ y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E x = y or the relationship cannot be established. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    I. 5x² - 28x + 39 = 0 5x² - 15x - 13x + 39 = 0 5x(x – 3) – 13(x – 3) = 0 (5x – 13) (x – 3) = 0 ∴x = 13/5 , 3 II. 2y² - 13y + 20 = 0 2y² - 8y - 5y + 20 = 0 2y(y – 4) – 5(y – 4) = 0 (2y – 5) (y – 4) = 0 ∴y = 5/2 , 4 Hence, relationship cannot be established.
