Question

    In each of the following questions, there are two equations. You have to solve both equations and mark the correct answer.

    I. 5x2 – 7x – 6 =0 II.

    2y2 – 5y – 7 =0
    A if x > y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B if x ≥ y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C if x < y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D if x = y or relationship cannot be established. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E if x ≥ y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    I. 5x2 – 7x – 6 =0 => 5x2 - 10x + 3x - 6 = 0 => 5x(x - 2) + 3(x - 2) = 0 => (x - 2) (5x + 3) = 0 => x = 2, -3/5 II. 2y2 – 5y – 7 =0 => 2y2 - 7y + 2y – 7 = 0 => y(2y - 7) + 1(2y - 7) = 0 => (2y - 7) (y + 1) = 0 => y = -1, 7/2 Hence, the relationship cannot be established between x and y.
