Question

    In each of the following questions, there are two equations. You have to solve both equations and mark the correct answer.

    I. x2 + 28x + 96 = 0

    II. y2 + 3y - 70 = 0

    A if x>y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B if x Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C if x≥y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D if x=y or relationship cannot be established. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    I. x2 + 28x + 96 = 0 => x2 + 24x + 4x + 96 = 0 => x(x + 24) + 4(x + 24) = 0 => (x + 4) (x + 24) = 0 => x = -4, -24 II. y2 + 3y - 70 = 0 => y2 + 10y - 7y – 70 = 0 => y(y + 10) - 7(y + 10) = 0 => (y + 10) (y - 7) = 0 => y = -10, 7 Hence, the relationship cannot be established between x and y.
