Question

    In the following questions, two equations numbered I and II are given.  You have to solve both the equations and give answer.

    I. 6x2 + 23x + 10 = 0

    II. 2y2 - 3y - 5 = 0

    A If x > y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B If x < y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C If x ≥ y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D If x ≤ y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E If x = y or Relationship between x and y cannot be established Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    I. 6x2 + 23x + 10 = 0 => 6x+ 20x + 3x + 10 = 0 => 2x(3x + 10) + 1(3x + 10) = 0 => (2x + 1) (3x + 10) = 0 => x = -1/2, -10/3 II. 2y2 - 3y - 5 = 0 => 2y2 - 5y + 2y - 5 = 0 => y(2y - 5) + 1(2y - 5) = 0 => (y + 1) (2y - 5) = 0 => y = -1, 5/2 Hence, x = y or the relationship cannot be established.
