Question
A woman distributed her savings between her daughters A,
B, C and D in the ratio 6 : 7 : 9 : 16. If A gives Rs. 600 from his share to C, the ratio of shares of A, B, C and D becomes 1 : 4 : 2 : 5. What is the average of sum of shares (in Rs.) of A, C and B, in the beginning?Solution
Ratio of A, B, C and D in the biggining = 6x : 7x : 9x : 16x Ratio of A, B, C and D in the last = 1 : 4 : 2 : 5 According to the question (6x – 600)/(9x + 600) = 1/2 ⇒ 12x – 1200 = 9x + 600 ⇒ 12x – 9x = 1200 + 600 ⇒ 3x = 1800 ⇒ x = 600 ∴ Average of A, B and C in the biggining = (6x + 7x + 9x)/3 = 22x/3 = 22/3 × 600 = 4400
