Question

Riya rides a bike at an average speed of 50 kmph and reaches her destination in 6 hours. Himani covers the same distance in 5 hrs. If Riya increases her average speed by 10 kmph and Himani increases her average speed by 20 kmph, what would be the difference in their time taken to reach destination?

A 55 min Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 48 min Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 50 min Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 75 min Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E none of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Riya’s speed= 50 km/hr. Time taken by Riya = 6 hrs. Distance = Speed × Time = 50 × 6 = 300 km. ∴ Distance covered by Himani = 300 km. Time taken by Himani = 5 hrs. ∴ Himani’s Speed = (Distance )/Time = (300 )/5 = 60 km/hr. Riya’s increased speed= 60 km/hr. ∴ Time taken by Riya = (300 )/60 = 5 hrs. Himani’s increased speed = 80 km/hr. ∴ Time taken by Himani = (300 )/80 = 3*3/4 hrs. = 3hrs 45 minutes. ∴ Required difference = 5 hrs – 3hrs 45 minutes = 75 minutes.
