Question
Car M takes 5 hours to travel from point A to B. It
would have taken 6 hours, if the same car had travelled the same distance at a speed which was 15 km/hr less than its original speed. What is the distance between points A and B?Solution
Let the distance between A and B is D km Speed of car M = x km/hr Case 1 - Speed = Distance/Time x = D/5 D = 5x ..........(i) Case 2 - Speed = Distance/Time x - 15 = D/6 D = 6x - 90..........(i) From (i) and (ii), we get 5x = 6x - 90 x = 90Â Hence, distance between A and B = 90 x 5 = 450 km
